How Do I?

Residents who live or own property in the library service area of Burns, Caledonia, Hazelton, Perry, Shiawassee, Venice Townships and the cities of Corunna and Perry can obtain a library card for free. Those municipalities contribute to a library millage that funds the library.  Residents of contracted service areas in Maple Grove Township, can purchase a library card for an annual fee of $35.00. To maintain accurate records, resident cards expire every 3 years. A photo ID with current address is required.

A non-resident card can be purchased for $75.00 annually.   A non-resident card will allow for full borrowing privileges of physical materials and digital content from Libby and hoopla. Technology such as hotspots and Chromebooks are included. 

A reciprocal borrowing card is free of charge to patrons who hold a card from Vernon District Library and Genesee District Library. This card will allow patrons to borrow physical materials materials free of charge. Digital materials and technology such as hotspots and Chromebooks are not included. 

A student card is free of charge for students 17 and younger who attend school in the library service area, but live outside of the district, or a student 17 and younger with no parent signature.  Student cards are limited to check out 5 physical items at a time and includes digital collections.

Books, audiobooks and magazines checkout for 14 days. DVDs and music CDs for 7 days. Items can be renewed by phone, online, or via the library app Valcat.

CDL is a fine-free library!

  • After 21 days, overdue items will be considered “lost,” and the account blocked until the items are returned.
  • After 31 days, accounts owing more than $25 in lost fees are sent to collections and billed a $10 collection fee and replacement fee. Once items are returned, the replacement fee will be removed.

You will need a valid Community District Library card and pin. The pin is the last four digits of your phone number. Place holds on materials by using the Valcat app, online, or by visiting or calling any branch location during business hours.

The Library will notify you by your preferred method of either text, email, or phone when your requested items are available at your pickup location. You may also check the status of holds and view other library card information online in My Account or via the Valcat app.

Materials will be kept on the hold shelf for 5 days from the date they are received. DVDs will be held for 3 days.

Search MeLCat to request items through the Michigan statewide interloan. Items will be delivered to the branch of your choice free of charge.
